Stem cell therapy performed by our team of doctors from the Spine Institute at RMSO and the Premier Stem Cell Institute is an innovative way to use your body’s own stem cells to treat chronic painful orthopedic knees, hips, shoulders, feet/ankles) or spinal disc injuries and conditions that have not improved following conservative, non-surgical treatments. Many of our patients visit us after exhausting all other possible remedies and want a possible alternative to an invasive surgery.

The first step is to determine whether you are a good candidate for stem cell therapy. This often requires a history and physical examination, x-rays, and an MRI. Stem cell therapy is not the best treatment for all cases. It is not the holy grail of medicine, however, it is a viable option for several pain suffering individuals. If we discover you are not a good candidate for stem cell therapy, we will discuss other treatment options with you. We are a fully equipped orthopedic facility offering a wide range of solutions.

Our advancing procedures are quick and relatively comfortable. Once you are determined to be a good candidate for the procedure, a member of our team will explain how stem cell therapy works and what will happen throughout the procedure, and answer any other questions you may have. Here is a brief synopsis of a typical procedure:

  • You will be given IV anesthesia or sedation, similar to what you would receive for a colonoscopy. Even though you may be awake and talking during the stem cell therapy procedure, you should have very little, if any, recollection of the procedure itself.
  • An experienced spine surgeon, orthopedic surgeon, or trained physician will remove some of your bone marrow. This process takes limited time and our team will assure you are comfortable throughout the duration of the procedure.
  • The bone marrow will be placed into a device made by Celling Biosciences that will separate the stem cells from the bone marrow.
  • The stem cells will then be injected back into your body in the area of damage or injury to aid in natural healing.
  • The entire procedure will take about 45 minutes.

Once the process is complete, our friendly staff will allow you to rest in the comfort of our state-of-the-art facility. A personal plan will be devised for an after care regime. Physical Therapy, chiropractic care, Reiki, Massage Therapy, acupuncture, and similar alternatives provide our patients with relief for their orthopedic aliments and we strongly encourage electing one, if not several, of these therapies to encourage the growth of your stem cells throughout your recovery process.

After a brief recovery period from the anesthesia, you will be able to go home, returning to your pre-procedure activity levels. We will either ask you to come back for a few post-operative appointments or follow up with you by phone, email, or mail so we can track your healing progress.
